Not even on the trail yet and we have a trail injury. This crazy mut pup split his little toe nail open running through the forest. As soon as this heals, he's getting some pup shoes.

Can you see the trail?
Went for a little hike in the snow. This picture is near the rear of Dumbarton Oaks. Really looking forward to some warmer weather.

C&O first lock
Some pictures of my practice walk last week. My crazy mut tried walking across the Potomac. He learned a valuable lesson that day when the ice broke beneath his feet.

I forgot that my dog needs to get prepared as well.  So, this week we've been walking around with his pack on.
I'll increase the weight gradually.

I hate the cold!!

Growing up in South Florida has spoiled me.

I live roughly 3 miles from the start of the C&O canal in Georgetown. The location of the start of my journey on the ADT.

Also running along the C&O is the Capital Crescent trail which splits off in Maryland and loops half way around DC ending in Silverspring, MD.

So, my walk this weekend will be the 3 miles to C&O, hop on the CC and then follow Rock Creek Trails home, for a total of 19 miles.

I've run this route while training for my marathon. However, I've never walked such a distance and am eager to compare the differences. My fear is that I will get bored. I also worry about being exposed to the cold for longer, while exerting less energy? We'll see.

Happy New Year!

I couldn't be more excited for this upcoming year.
My resolution is to stay alive.

Figuring out how to use my GPS has been interesting.
I need some final gear and a camera.

Everyday closer to the forest.
